The Ghana Football Association has named an interim technical team to steer the Black Stars through their November fixture against Somalia, with Kim Lars Björkegren taking charge as head coach.
The appointment, announced Friday in a joint statement with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, follows a recommendation from the Black Stars Coach Search Committee after what the statement described as "an extensive review process and consultations with a number of qualified coaching candidates."
Who Makes Up the Team
Björkegren will be assisted by Ibrahim Tanko and Godwin Attram, while Fatawu Dauda takes on the role of goalkeepers coach.
According to the statement, the Committee settled on this setup because it offers "continuity, experienced leadership, and a strategic direction" at a moment the team is still finding its footing.
The GFA and Ministry believe the mix of personalities brings together "international experience, local knowledge, technical expertise, and a deep understanding of the Ghanaian football landscape."
Additional support staff will reportedly be added to round out the technical bench ahead of the international window.
Just for November, For Now
The arrangement is strictly temporary, covering only the upcoming fixture. The Search Committee's hunt for a substantive head coach continues in the background, with its mandate unaffected by this interim fix.
The statement also touched on the Black Queens, with the Ministry, GFA and Search Committee insisting both national teams will get "the technical and operational support required to meet their respective objectives" through the international period.
The three bodies closed with an appeal to the public. "We call on all Ghanaians to rally behind the team and support the players and technical staff as they prepare to represent the nation," the statement read, signed jointly by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, the Ghana Football Association, and the Black Stars Head Coach Search Committee.
