Cocoa Capital PLC has launched a GH¢16.30 billion Cocoa Capital financing programme on the Ghana Fixed Income Market, opening a new domestic funding route for cocoa purchases during the 2026/27 season.
The company, a subsidiary of the Ghana Cocoa Board, is seeking to raise GH¢14 billion through commercial paper and another GH¢2.30 billion through bonds.
The programme, launched through the Ghana Stock Exchange, forms part of government’s wider cocoa sector reforms and is intended to reduce reliance on external borrowing for seasonal cocoa financing.
Domestic Market Takes Bigger Financing Role
Under the new structure, Ghana’s domestic capital market will play a more direct role in financing the purchase of cocoa beans.
For Cocoa Marketing Company Ghana Limited, the arrangement provides another layer of financial support for the wider value chain.
CMC, which markets Ghana’s cocoa to domestic and international buyers, said dependable financing is closely linked to cocoa purchasing, marketing and the country’s ability to meet contractual obligations to buyers.
The new approach is expected to diversify funding sources and make seasonal purchasing arrangements less dependent on external credit.
CMC Sees Boost for Buyer Confidence
CMC said a stronger financing structure could help maintain a reliable cocoa supply chain while protecting Ghana’s reputation among international buyers.
Predictable financing is particularly important during the main crop season, when substantial funds are required to purchase cocoa from farmers before export revenues are fully realised.
The company believes the programme could also improve operational efficiency across the industry and support longer term competitiveness.
“A stronger financing framework for Ghana’s cocoa industry is essential to ensuring a reliable supply chain, maintaining international buyer confidence and reinforcing Ghana’s reputation as a dependable supplier of premium-quality cocoa.” - CMC
It added that the financing initiative forms part of a broader effort to strengthen local processing, marketing and value creation within the cocoa industry.
“Together, we remain committed to advancing Ghana’s cocoa industry and connecting Ghana’s premium cocoa to the world,” CMC stated.
