The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has warned Ghanaians against a growing Zambia job scam in which purported employment opportunities are allegedly being used to lure victims into organised cybercrime operations.
The advisory follows the arrest of six Ghanaians during a joint security operation in Lusaka on August 23, 2026.
Zambian authorities apprehended 79 people at Evana Estates in New Kasama during an operation involving the Police Service, Drug Enforcement Commission, Department of Immigration and other security agencies. The group included 69 foreign nationals and 10 Zambians.
Authorities also seized computers, mobile phones, Starlink equipment, passports and cash during the raid.
Ghanaians Allegedly Recruited for Fake Jobs
According to information received by Ghana’s High Commission in Lusaka, some recruits travelled to Zambia after accepting what appeared to be legitimate employment, including online data entry jobs.
Their passports were allegedly confiscated after arrival and they were subsequently forced to participate in online scam operations.
The Ministry said the reports pointed to the possible use of fraudulent recruitment by human trafficking networks to draw unsuspecting job seekers into illegal activities.
It cautioned Ghanaians to “exercise extreme caution” before accepting employment in Zambia.
Ministry Urges Verification Before Travel
Prospective workers have been advised to verify employers, recruitment agencies and job offers before leaving Ghana.
The warning comes as Ghana’s Cyber Security Authority has separately raised concerns about fake recruitment advertisements circulating through social media, messaging platforms and fraudulent websites.
Ghanaians already living in Zambia have also been urged to remain cautious when responding to online vacancies and maintain contact with the Ghana High Commission in Lusaka when consular assistance is required.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry said government would continue working to protect the welfare of Ghanaian citizens travelling or residing abroad.
