24-Hour Works Begin on Darkuman–Kaneshie Road

The Ministry of Roads has introduced a 24-hour work schedule for the Darkuman Kaneshie road rehabilitation project as contractors race to complete major road and drainage works along the busy Accra corridor.

The project covers sections from Atico Junction through Kaneshie First Light to Hansonic Junction and includes road rehabilitation, civil works and the construction of underground storm drains.

Contractors on the project include Awerco Construction Limited.

The round-the-clock arrangement is intended to maintain progress on the works and reduce the time commuters spend dealing with construction-related disruptions.

Drainage Works Target Longstanding Problems

Construction began on August 21, 2026, after the Ministry engaged contractors to repair deteriorated sections of the road and improve drainage infrastructure.

The corridor has for years faced problems linked to damaged road surfaces and poor drainage, making movement difficult for motorists, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.

Ongoing excavation and drain construction have resulted in traffic adjustments along parts of the route.

Once completed, the project is expected to improve stormwater drainage, restore damaged road sections and provide a more durable route for drivers and passengers.

Busy Corridor Links Major Communities

The stretch serves thousands of commuters moving between Kaneshie, Darkuman, Dansoman and surrounding residential and commercial areas.

Traffic congestion along the corridor has often worsened during peak periods, and the Ministry expects faster construction to reduce prolonged disruption.

The expanded project scope also covers important connecting sections around Atico Junction, Kaneshie First Light and Hansonic Junction.

By moving to a 24-hour construction schedule, the Ministry says it wants contractors to sustain momentum and meet the stipulated completion deadline while improving safety and connectivity for road users.
