Cabinet has approved a Bill on Public Relations regulation aimed at professionalising the industry and strengthening credibility in the practice of PR in Ghana.
Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Shamima Muslim disclosed the development at the 2026 National PR Summit in Koforidua, Eastern Region.
Speaking on behalf of Minister of State in charge of Government Communications Felix Kwakye Ofosu, she said the proposed legislation is intended to provide a regulatory framework for the profession.
The summit was held under the theme, “Public Relations and Leadership Readiness.”
Government Backs Professional Development
Ms Muslim also announced additional government support for public relations professionals, including plans to assist with the completion of the Institute of Public Relations Ghana’s permanent secretariat.
Government will further provide discounted professional registration for 90% of public relations officers, she said.
Capacity building will form another part of the intervention, with experts expected to work with practitioners to strengthen professional skills and improve standards across the sector.
The measures signal a push towards greater professional accountability as public relations takes on an increasingly important role across government institutions, private businesses and other organisations.
Details on when the approved Bill will be presented to Parliament and the specific regulatory provisions it contains were not disclosed at the summit.
