GES Releases 2026/2027 Academic Calendar for SHSs and SHTSs

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has officially released the 2026/2027 academic calendar for Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs), providing detailed schedules for both single-track and transitional schools across the country.

In a statement issued on June 1, GES urged parents, students, teachers, and school administrators to familiarise themselves with the calendar and make the necessary preparations ahead of the new academic year.

“The Management of GES wishes to inform parents/guardians, students, and the public that the academic calendar for Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) for the 2026/2027 academic year has been finalised,” the statement said.

Under the single-track system, Form One and Form Two students will report to school on September 18, 2026, for the first semester, which will end on January 29, 2027. Students will then proceed on vacation until March 29, 2027, before returning for the second semester from March 30 to July 30, 2027.

For Form Three students, the first semester will run from September 18 to December 18, 2026. Following a vacation period ending January 31, 2027, they will resume classes on February 1 and complete the academic year on June 18, 2027.

Transitional Schools to Continue Blended Learning

GES announced that transitional schools will continue implementing a blend of in-person and online learning to accommodate students within the double-track transition framework.

Form One students will begin in-school learning on September 18, 2026, before switching to online studies from November 16 to December 18, 2026. They will return to campus from February 8 to April 16, 2027, followed by another online learning phase from April 19 to May 14, 2027. Their second semester will run from June 21 to August 27, 2027.

Form Two students will attend school from November 16, 2026, to February 5, 2027, before transitioning to online learning from February 8 to March 5, 2027. Their second semester is scheduled from April 19 to August 27, 2027.

GES also confirmed key holiday and examination dates for the academic year. The Christmas break will run from December 19, 2026, to January 4, 2027, while the Easter break is scheduled for March 25 to March 30, 2027.

The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is expected to take place from April 6 to June 18, 2027. A mid-semester break for Form Two students in transitional schools has also been scheduled from June 17 to June 20, 2027.

The release of the calendar provides schools and families with a clear roadmap for the academic year, ensuring adequate planning for teaching, learning, examinations, and holiday activities.
