GOIL HSSEQ Week has spotlighted the growing importance of psychosocial workplace safety within Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector, as industry leaders gathered to discuss employee well-being and organisational performance.
The event, organised by GOIL PLC under the theme “Promoting a Positive Psychosocial Working Environment,” brought together stakeholders including executives from the Chamber of Oil Marketing Companies (COMAC).
Participants used the platform to reflect on the strong link between physical health, psychological well-being, and workplace safety. Discussions emphasised that a supportive work environment is critical to improving productivity and strengthening organisational outcomes.
A key highlight of the event was the unveiling of the GOIL HSSEQ Employee Handbook, a document aimed at reinforcing standards in health, safety, security, environment, and quality management.
COMAC Praises GOIL’s Leadership
Speaking at the event, COMAC CEO Riverson Oppong commended GOIL for its commitment to employee welfare and industry leadership.
“In the downstream petroleum sector, safety must go beyond physical protection to include mental well-being, open communication, and responsible leadership,” he stated.
He added that creating a people-centred workplace enhances alertness, accountability, and overall safety outcomes, ultimately benefiting both employees and organisations.
The discussions reinforced the importance of building work environments where employees feel valued, respected, and empowered to contribute effectively. Industry leaders noted that such cultures not only improve morale but also strengthen teamwork and long-term business performance.
COMAC further praised GOIL for championing initiatives that prioritise employee well-being, describing the HSSEQ Week as a timely intervention in advancing safety standards across the sector.
The event underscores a broader shift within Ghana’s energy industry toward integrating mental health and workplace culture into core safety strategies.
