Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed has officially been sworn in as Ayawaso East MP, following a ceremony presided over by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin.
The swearing-in took place at the start of parliamentary proceedings on Monday, where the Speaker administered both the oath of office and the oath of allegiance before members of the House. Following the ceremony, Baba Jamal was formally ushered to his seat as the representative of the Ayawaso East Constituency.
The event marked his official entry into Parliament as he begins his legislative duties on behalf of his constituents.
Speaker urges accountability and service
During the ceremony, Speaker Bagbin presented the newly sworn-in lawmaker with copies of the 1992 Constitution and the Standing Orders of Parliament, describing them as essential tools for effective legislative work.
The Speaker also encouraged the new Member of Parliament to remain accountable to the people he represents.

He stressed the importance of active participation in parliamentary proceedings and constituency representation, adding that he would closely observe his contributions on the floor of the House.
According to the Speaker, the responsibility of a Member of Parliament extends beyond debates in the chamber to ensuring that the concerns of constituents are properly represented in national decision-making.
Parliamentary leaders welcome new lawmaker
Following the swearing-in, leaders from both the Majority and Minority caucuses welcomed Baba Jamal to Parliament and expressed confidence in his ability to contribute meaningfully to the work of the House.
Members from both sides of the chamber encouraged him to work diligently to advance the interests of the Ayawaso East Constituency while supporting national development efforts.
They also urged him to uphold the responsibilities entrusted to him by the electorate and to approach his role with dedication and integrity.
With the completion of the ceremony, Baba Jamal officially begins his tenure in Ghana’s legislature, joining other lawmakers in deliberating on national policies and legislation aimed at shaping the country’s governance and development.
