Black Sherif Wins Artiste of the Year at 2026 TGMA

Ghanaian musician Black Sherif has once again solidified his position as one of the country’s biggest music stars after winning the coveted Artiste of the Year award at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards 2026.

The victory marks the second time the singer, rapper and songwriter has secured the top honour, having first won the category in 2023.

His latest success follows a remarkable year dominated by the widespread acclaim of his sophomore album, Iron Boy.

Black Sherif triumphed over a competitive lineup that included Stonebwoy, King Promise, Medikal and Sarkodie. The achievement places him among a select group of Ghanaian artistes who have won the prestigious title multiple times.

Iron Boy Powers Award Success

Industry analysts and music fans have widely credited the success of Iron Boy for Black Sherif’s dominance throughout the awards season.

The album received strong commercial support and critical acclaim, helping expand his influence across Ghana and beyond.

Reflecting on the journey behind the project, the artiste highlighted the immense effort invested in producing the album.

“For this particular award, I beg you to make they give me six minutes. I have to really talk about the album. First, I go thank the fans. Thank you so much for listening,” he said during his acceptance speech.

He stressed that the project’s achievements were built on hard work and determination rather than luck.

“That’s how much work went into Iron Boy; I’m trying to let you know this didn’t happen by chance. This wasn’t luck; this is determination. This is hard work,” he added.

Multiple Wins on the Night

Beyond the top prize, Black Sherif enjoyed one of the biggest nights at the awards ceremony, taking home several major honours.

Iron Boy won Album or EP of the Year and also received a GH¢100,000 cash prize from Pulse Ghana alongside production support from Guinness Ghana.

His song Sacrifice earned him Songwriter of the Year and Best Afropop Song, while Where Dem Boyz secured the Best Hip Hop Song award.

During reflections ahead of the ceremony, the musician expressed confidence in the quality of work delivered over the past year.

“I’m so ready,” he stated. “The flowers in our hearts are booming. We know our worth.”

Music observers say the multiple wins further reinforce Black Sherif’s growing reputation as one of Africa’s fastest-rising music talents and a leading force in Ghana’s contemporary music scene.
