President John Dramani Mahama is expected to hold high-level bilateral talks with Belarusian President Aleksandr Grigorievich Lukashenko today as part of efforts to deepen diplomatic and economic relations between Ghana and Belarus.
The meeting, scheduled to take place at the Presidential Palace in Minsk, marks a key highlight of President Mahama’s five-day official visit to the Eastern European nation.
The engagement will be followed by discussions involving senior officials from both countries and the signing of four memoranda of understanding aimed at strengthening cooperation in strategic sectors.
President Mahama’s visit comes at the invitation of President Lukashenko and is focused on exploring new opportunities in economic, agricultural and technical collaboration.
The expected agreements are anticipated to enhance partnerships between Ghana and Belarus while opening new avenues for trade, investment and technology transfer.
Following the bilateral engagements, President Mahama will address a Ghana-Belarus Business Forum at the Presidential Hotel in Minsk, where government officials and private sector representatives from both countries will explore investment opportunities and commercial partnerships.
Focus on Agriculture and Investment
The Ghanaian delegation includes representatives from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, the Ghana Export Promotion Authority, the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, and several private sector stakeholders.
Over the weekend, President Mahama toured Savushkin Product, one of Belarus’ largest agro-processing firms, where he observed advanced dairy production technologies and discussed potential areas of collaboration.
He also visited the Belagro Agricultural Exhibition, where he was introduced to modern farming machinery, food processing technologies and mechanisation systems that could support Ghana’s agricultural transformation agenda.
Accompanying the President are Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Eric Opoku, Stan Xoese Dogbe and Shamima Muslim.
The visit is expected to conclude later this week, with both countries expressing optimism that the engagements will pave the way for stronger economic ties and long-term institutional cooperation.
