The Bank of Ghana has clarified its GoldBod representation, confirming that Governor Dr Johnson Pandit Asiama stopped serving personally on the Ghana Gold Board’s governing board on May 11, 2026.
In a statement issued on Monday, September 28, the central bank said Dr Asiama has not attended or participated in GoldBod board meetings or activities since leaving the position.
The clarification follows public discussion over the Governor’s earlier disclosure that he had resigned from the GoldBod Board about five months ago.
Matilda Asante-Asiedu Takes BoG Seat
The Bank said Second Deputy Governor Matilda Asante-Asiedu has been nominated to represent it on the GoldBod Board.
“Mrs. Asante-Asiedu has since assumed that role and represents the Bank on the GoldBod Board in fulfilment of the statutory requirement,” BoG revealed.
Section 4 of the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025, Act 1140, provides for the central bank to be represented by the Governor or another Bank of Ghana official nominated by the Governor who is not below the rank of Director.
That means Dr Asiama’s personal departure does not remove the Bank of Ghana’s institutional representation on GoldBod.
BoG Cites Governance and Conflict Concerns
The issue has attracted attention following concerns raised by the New Patriotic Party over whether the Governor’s simultaneous roles at the central bank and GoldBod could create a conflict of interest.
The BoG’s latest statement does not address those political claims directly. It instead sets out the timeline of the Governor’s exit and confirms his replacement.
“The Bank of Ghana remains committed to the highest standards of governance, transparency and the avoidance of any actual or perceived conflict of interest,” the statement said.
GoldBod has separately rejected suggestions that Dr Asiama’s exit reflected a dispute between the two institutions.
