The Civil Service Council has commended the for its role in stabilising Ghana’s economy, describing recent economic improvements as evidence of effective public sector leadership and prudent economic management.
The praise came during a familiarisation visit by members of the Council to the Ministry, where discussions focused on economic management, institutional challenges, staff development and collaboration across government agencies.
Chairman of the Council, Lawrence Akanweeke Kannae, praised officials of the Ministry for steering the economy through a difficult period marked by fiscal pressures and economic uncertainty.
According to him, recent gains in the value of the cedi against major international currencies, coupled with improving economic conditions, signal that government interventions are beginning to produce results.
“You have demonstrated commitment and dedication at a very critical period for the country. The economy is responding positively, and many Ghanaians are beginning to regain confidence,” Dr. Kannae stated.
He encouraged staff of the Ministry to maintain professionalism and integrity while supporting government’s broader economic transformation agenda.
The Council chairman explained that the visit formed part of ongoing engagements with Ministries, Departments and Agencies aimed at strengthening institutional coordination, identifying operational bottlenecks and improving public sector service delivery.
Call for Stronger Institutional Support
Dr. Kannae stressed that achieving government’s “resetting agenda” would require stronger collaboration among state institutions and adequate logistical support for public agencies.
He therefore urged the Finance Ministry to continue supporting other MDAs to improve efficiency and service delivery across the Civil Service.
The Chief Director of the Ministry expressed appreciation to the Council for recognising the Ministry’s efforts and reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to sound economic management.
He highlighted the importance of training and professional development programmes in strengthening human resource capacity within the Civil Service.
The Chief Director also pointed to recent fiscal reforms, particularly the implementation of the Commitment Authorization system, which he said has helped reduce waste and promote prudent use of public resources.
He added that the leadership of Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson has played a significant role in restoring confidence in public financial management and steering the economy toward recovery.
Capacity Building and Policy Reforms
Also addressing the gathering, Evans Aggrey-Darkoh underscored the need for continuous staff development to equip public servants with the skills required for policy formulation and international economic negotiations.
He noted that institutions such as the Finance Ministry regularly engage global organisations, including the , making technical expertise essential.
Dr. Aggrey-Darkoh described the Ministry as one of the country’s key institutions driving strategic reforms aimed at building a resilient and self-sustaining economy.
Discussions during the meeting also covered government flagship programmes and gender budgeting initiatives, with participants emphasising the need for sustained reforms to support private sector growth and national development.
