The Acting Managing Director of the Electricity Company of Ghana, Kwame Kpekpena, has issued an unreserved apology to Ghanaians following recent intermittent power supply that has disrupted homes and businesses.
Speaking at a press conference in Accra on April 20, Ing. Kpekpena acknowledged the inconvenience caused by persistent outages and assured the public that urgent steps are being taken to address the situation.
“To every Ghanaian customer who has endured inconvenient and prolonged power outages, we sincerely apologise,” he said, stressing that restoring reliability is now the company’s top operational priority.
The ECG boss admitted that some of the challenges stem from longstanding issues within the power distribution system, including years of underinvestment that have led to equipment strain, low voltage, and recurring outages.
“The challenges we face are real and complex… but we are not standing still. We have a plan, we have a schedule, and we are committing all our resources to execute it.” Acting Managing Director of ECG, Kwame Kpekpena
Improving Communication and Response
Ing. Kpekpena also conceded that the company’s communication and response times have not met public expectations, describing the lapses as unacceptable.
He indicated that ECG has begun implementing measures to improve operational efficiency, speed up response times, and strengthen customer engagement.
“We have taken deliberate steps to address these gaps… to enhance operational performance and improve response times.” - Acting Managing Director of ECG, Kwame Kpekpena
The Acting Managing Director reaffirmed ECG’s commitment to transparency and welcomed the role of the media in holding the company accountable as reforms are rolled out.
He assured that the public would be kept informed of progress as the company works to stabilise power supply and rebuild trust with consumers.
