The Electricity Company of Ghana has announced the successful completion of Phase Two of the government’s Transformer Replacement and Upgrade Programme at the Lashibi Primary Substation ahead of its scheduled deadline.

The project, which began on April 14, 2026, was initially expected to be completed by April 17 but was delivered earlier due to intensified efforts by ECG’s technical teams.

In a statement signed by Acting Director of Communications, Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku, the company attributed the early completion to round-the-clock work by engineers who expedited the installation and testing of new equipment.

According to ECG, the swift execution enabled the early restoration of electricity to communities affected by the planned outages, minimising disruption to households and businesses.

Broader Upgrade Programme Underway

The company indicated that preparations are already underway for the next phase of transformer upgrades, with further details on locations and timelines expected to be announced soon.

ECG also revealed plans to expand the programme to replace ageing distribution transformers across various communities as part of a broader government initiative to strengthen the national power system.

The ongoing interventions are designed to address system overloads, reduce the frequency of power outages, and enhance the overall reliability of electricity supply nationwide.

ECG emphasised that modernising critical infrastructure remains key to meeting growing energy demand and supporting economic development.

The company expressed gratitude to residents of Lashibi and surrounding areas for their cooperation during the exercise.

“ECG expresses its sincere appreciation to the residents of Lashibi and surrounding communities for their patience, cooperation, and understanding during the brief planned outages,” the statement said, adding that their support enabled safe and efficient completion of the works.

ECG reaffirmed its commitment to improving service delivery and ensuring a more stable power supply across the country.
