Ghana Stock Exchange closed Tuesday’s trading session with a turnover of GH¢59.47 million, driven largely by heavy activity in MTN Ghana despite the telecom giant recording one of the day’s biggest price declines.

According to the GSE Official List for Trading Session 7219 held on May 26, 2026, total market volume reached 9.25 million shares.

Ordinary shares accounted for 9.25 million shares valued at GH¢59.32 million, while the NewGold ETF contributed 298 units worth GH¢149,571.

MTN Ghana remained the dominant counter on the market, trading 8.84 million shares valued at GH¢57.56 million. The transaction represented approximately 96.8 per cent of the total market value traded during the session.

However, the stock shed GH¢0.22 to close at GH¢6.51, down from its previous volume-weighted average price of GH¢6.73. The decline placed downward pressure on overall market sentiment despite the strong turnover generated by the stock.

MTN Ghana Drives Liquidity

The session once again highlighted MTN Ghana’s outsized influence on market liquidity and investor activity on the local bourse.

Analysts noted that the market remained heavily concentrated around a few large counters, with MTN Ghana continuing to serve as the primary liquidity anchor for investors.

While turnover remained strong, the stock’s price decline reflected cautious investor sentiment and concerns about sustaining recent market gains.

Other actively traded equities included GCB Bank, which traded 14,893 shares valued at GH¢536,148, while Ecobank Transnational Incorporated recorded 132,166 shares worth GH¢183,403.01.

CalBank also posted notable activity, trading 181,175 shares valued at GH¢132,937.35.

Zen Petroleum, NewGold Post Gains

Despite the mixed market performance, several counters ended the session in positive territory.

Zen Petroleum Holdings emerged as the day’s top equity gainer after advancing by GH¢0.83 to close at GH¢11.47. The stock traded 4,608 shares valued at GH¢53,125.20.

TotalEnergies Marketing Ghana also recorded gains, rising by GH¢0.09 to close at GH¢33.00.

Ecobank Transnational Incorporated added GH¢0.05 to close at GH¢1.39, while NewGold ETF climbed by GH¢4.92 to settle at GH¢501.92.

On the losing side, SIC Insurance Company recorded the steepest decline, dropping GH¢0.29 to close at GH¢5.00. CalBank fell by GH¢0.02 to GH¢0.73, while Fan Milk slipped marginally by GH¢0.01 to GH¢13.32.

Investors Watch Market Direction

The session reflected a market with strong liquidity concentration but uneven price performance across sectors.

Investor interest in NewGold ETF suggested continued demand for gold-linked instruments amid ongoing uncertainty in global commodity and financial markets.

Market watchers are expected to closely monitor MTN Ghana’s next trading sessions to determine whether the stock can stabilise after the decline and whether gains in petroleum and gold-linked counters can provide broader support for market sentiment.
