Ghana Stock Exchange turnover eased to GH¢6.32 million on Friday, August 28, 2026, as MTN Ghana once again carried much of the market’s liquidity while several smaller equities posted notable price gains.
Investors exchanged about 1.25 million shares during Trading Session 7285. Ordinary equities accounted for 1.04 million shares valued at GH¢6.16 million, with activity on the Ghana Alternative Market and the exchange traded fund segment adding relatively little to the total.
MTN Ghana was easily the day’s biggest contributor. The telecommunications company recorded 477,374 shares valued at GH¢3.30 million, equivalent to roughly 52.20% of total market turnover.
Its share price edged up from GH¢6.90 to GH¢6.91, a modest 0.14% gain.
That small price movement contrasted sharply with some of the percentage gains recorded elsewhere on the market.
Enterprise, Dannex and SIC Lead Main Board Gains
Enterprise Group emerged as one of Friday’s strongest main board performers, rising 8.77% to GH¢6.70 from GH¢6.16.
A total of 30,055 Enterprise shares changed hands for approximately GH¢201,368.
Dannex Ayrton Starwin followed with an 8.20% increase, closing at GH¢1.98 from GH¢1.83. The pharmaceutical company attracted considerably more volume, with 101,183 shares traded for about GH¢200,378.
SIC Insurance advanced 6.20% to GH¢5.31, while CAL Bank gained 2.74% to GH¢0.75.
Kasapreko also moved higher, adding 1.54% to finish at GH¢1.98 on turnover of about GH¢180,908.
GCB Bank recorded a far smaller percentage gain of 0.18%, but its higher share price meant that 16,606 shares generated turnover of approximately GH¢650,197, making the bank one of the largest contributors to value traded outside MTN Ghana.
GAX Stocks Post Big Percentage Moves on Small Turnover
The Ghana Alternative Market produced some of the day’s biggest percentage gains, though on relatively light trading.
Meridian Marshalls Holdings rose 9.09% from GH¢0.11 to GH¢0.12, but only 5,568 shares were traded, producing turnover of GH¢668.
Digicut Production and Advertising gained 8.33% to GH¢0.26 on 5,129 shares.
Those movements underline how low priced stocks can register sizeable percentage changes from very small absolute moves.
Intravenous Infusions went the other way, slipping 1.32% to GH¢0.75 despite recording 170,376 shares, the largest volume on the GAX.
Among main market decliners, Ecobank Transnational Incorporated fell 1.61% to GH¢1.83, GOIL lost 0.67% to GH¢7.45 and Clydestone eased 0.33% to GH¢5.98.
Heavyweights Largely Unchanged
Several large stocks closed exactly where they started.
Ecobank Ghana held at GH¢39.02, Guinness Ghana Breweries remained at GH¢10.70, Standard Chartered Bank Ghana stayed at GH¢69.89, Unilever Ghana closed unchanged at GH¢40.00 and TotalEnergies Marketing Ghana remained at GH¢41.50.
Trading in the NewGold exchange traded fund was also thin, with just 17 units changing hands at GH¢462.39, producing turnover of GH¢7,860.
Turnover Falls Sharply From Thursday
Friday’s GH¢6.32 million turnover represented a marked slowdown from the previous session, when market value reached about GH¢15.96 million.
The drop again exposed how dependent daily activity on the Ghana Stock Exchange remains on a limited number of highly liquid counters.
MTN Ghana’s GH¢3.30 million turnover alone exceeded the combined value traded in many other active equities. GCB Bank followed with about GH¢650,197, while Ecobank Ghana contributed roughly GH¢385,830.
That concentration helps provide liquidity in the most heavily traded stocks, but it also highlights the challenge of developing a deeper market where activity is spread more evenly across sectors.
Still, Friday was not entirely quiet beneath the headline numbers.
Strong gains in Enterprise, Dannex, SIC and selected GAX counters showed that investors were willing to move beyond MTN Ghana, even if the value of those trades remained modest.
The question for the new trading week is whether that buying interest broadens across the market or whether turnover continues to depend heavily on a handful of dominant stocks.
