Ghana, UAE Deepen Strategic Energy Cooperation at Abu Dhabi Summit

Ghana and the United Arab Emirates have agreed to strengthen strategic energy cooperation following high-level talks between President John Dramani Mahama and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi.

The discussions took place on the sidelines of the Make it in the Emirates 2026 held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.

Both leaders explored opportunities to expand Ghana UAE energy cooperation, including proposals for UAE investment in oil and gas storage infrastructure in Ghana.

Beyond traditional fossil fuels, the two leaders discussed diversifying energy portfolios to improve long-term sustainability and energy security.

They highlighted the importance of transitioning toward Liquefied Natural Gas and solar power as part of efforts to reduce over-reliance on crude oil and support cleaner energy development.

The talks also covered broader economic cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, innovation, technology and artificial intelligence.

Leaders Discuss Regional Stability

President Mahama and Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed also addressed ongoing tensions in the Middle East, particularly the conflict involving the United States and Iran.

The two leaders acknowledged the UAE’s strategic position in the region and expressed hope for a swift resolution to hostilities, noting that lasting peace would allow greater global focus on development and innovation.

The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming the longstanding relationship between Ghana and the UAE.

The UAE President described Ghana as a “peaceful partner” and a “secure, stable democracy,” while both leaders expressed confidence that the renewed partnership would create new opportunities in trade, investment and sustainable energy development.

Officials say the engagement reflects growing cooperation between the two countries as Ghana seeks to strengthen international partnerships to support economic transformation and energy sector growth.
