Jubilee oil production is expected to climb beyond 90,000 barrels per day as three new producer wells strengthen output from Ghana’s flagship offshore field, Kosmos Energy has said.
The company reported gross Jubilee production of about 72,000 barrels of oil per day during the second quarter of 2026. J76 started producing in mid June, while J77 followed in early July.
J50, a completion of an earlier drilled well, is expected to begin production shortly. Kosmos believes its addition will push the field above the 90,000 barrel mark.
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Andy Inglis said the drilling programme was delivering “towards the upper end of our expectations,” underlining confidence in Jubilee’s remaining potential.
Ghana production rises
The outlook is a notable step up for the field, which remains central to Ghana’s upstream petroleum industry and to Kosmos Energy’s portfolio.
Kosmos recorded average net production in Ghana of approximately 36,300 barrels of oil equivalent per day during the quarter. That figure included roughly 7,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in gas production.
Sales activity broadly followed the company’s forecast. Kosmos completed two Jubilee cargo liftings and one lifting from the Tweneboa, Enyenra and Ntomme fields, known as TEN.
A third Jubilee cargo started loading on June 30 and was completed on July 2. Its timing placed most of the transaction outside the second quarter, despite loading beginning before the quarter closed.
Drilling campaign continues
Kosmos holds a 38.6 percent working interest in Jubilee. Early performance from J76 and J77 has been strong and sits near the top of the partners’ expectations.
The drilling sequence is unfinished. A water injection well is planned to conclude the campaign and is expected to become operational by the end of the third quarter.
Attention is already turning to the next drilling phase. The Jubilee partners are working to secure a rig for a campaign expected to begin around the middle of 2027.
That programme could involve as many as ten wells across 2027 and 2028, giving the partners another opportunity to protect production levels and develop available reserves.
Output from TEN, where Kosmos holds a 20.4 percent working interest, averaged about 14,700 barrels of oil per day gross in the second quarter.
The near term headline, though, belongs to Jubilee. If J50 performs as planned, Ghana’s largest producing oil field will move back above 90,000 barrels per day, a level with clear implications for national petroleum output and export earnings.
