Karpowership Ghana has entered discussions with government authorities to extend its power supply agreement beyond the current 10-year term, a move the company says is essential for maintaining reliable electricity delivery.

Speaking during a media tour of its floating power facility, the Osman Khan, Communications Specialist Sandra Amerquaye revealed that negotiations are underway and progressing positively.

“We signed a 10-year PPA with the Electricity Company of Ghana, and we are hoping to have an extension,” she said, adding that engagements with government remain ongoing.

Operational Efficiency and Strategic Relocation

Karpowership began operations in Ghana in 2015 in Tema before relocating to the Sekondi Naval Base in 2019 to leverage natural gas resources in the Western Region.

According to the company, the move has significantly improved efficiency and enhanced the stability of power generation.

Amerquaye noted that the company’s continued presence would contribute to long-term energy planning while supporting consistent electricity supply across the country.

The media tour offered journalists a closer look at the company’s operations, including its control room and power generation systems aboard the vessel.

Amerquaye described the engagement as an opportunity to deepen public understanding of Karpowership’s role in Ghana’s energy sector.

“Our mode of operation is very unique, and you only have to get on the powership to understand how we operate,” she said, stressing the importance of transparency and stakeholder engagement.

Community Investment and Social Impact

Beyond electricity generation, Karpowership Ghana highlighted its commitment to community development through various corporate social investment initiatives. These include educational support programmes, school renovations, scholarships, and mentorship schemes.

The company is also implementing a World Bank-supported internship initiative aimed at empowering young women, aligning with global development priorities such as gender equality and quality education.

“We believe that wherever we operate, we belong to the community,” Amerquaye said, underscoring the company’s broader social responsibility agenda.

As negotiations continue, Karpowership remains confident that its operational track record and contributions to Ghana’s energy stability will support a favourable outcome.

For now, the company says it is focused on sustaining operational excellence while strengthening partnerships with government and local communities, positioning itself as a key player in the country’s evolving energy landscape.
