MTN Ghana, Kasapreko Drive GH¢10.88m Ghana Stock Exchange Turnover

Ghana Stock Exchange trading remained firm on Friday, July 24, with investors exchanging 3.21 million shares valued at GH¢10.88 million as MTN Ghana and Kasapreko absorbed most of the market’s liquidity.

Ordinary equities accounted for 2.70 million shares worth GH¢10.53 million, while activity on the Ghana Alternative Market contributed 510,500 shares valued at GH¢332,930. NewGold ETF recorded 39 units traded for GH¢18,033.21.

Eleven stocks closed higher. Only one declined.

That was the tone of the session, although the concentration of activity told its own story.

MTN Ghana Controls Turnover

MTN Ghana was the biggest counter by value, with 903,387 shares changing hands for GH¢6.32 million.

The telecommunications stock closed at GH¢7.00, gaining GH¢0.02 from its previous price of GH¢6.98. That represented a 0.29 per cent increase and placed the stock at its highest price for the year.

MTNGH alone generated 58.11 per cent of the market’s total turnover and accounted for 28.14 per cent of shares traded.

Its influence was difficult to miss. More than half of every cedi traded during the session passed through one counter.

Kasapreko led activity by volume, recording 1.05 million shares worth GH¢2.11 million. The recently listed beverage producer slipped by GH¢0.02 to close at GH¢2.01, making it the only declining stock among the actively traded counters.

Despite that dip, Kasapreko contributed 32.69 per cent of total market volume.

Together, MTN Ghana and Kasapreko generated GH¢8.43 million in turnover, equivalent to 77.50 per cent of the day’s value traded.

CAL Bank and IIL Attract Interest

CAL Bank followed with 465,914 shares traded for GH¢372,731.20. Its share price advanced by GH¢0.01 to GH¢0.80, representing a 1.27 per cent gain.

Intravenous Infusions recorded another strong session on the alternative market. Investors traded 500,500 shares worth GH¢330,330, while the stock climbed 10 per cent from GH¢0.60 to GH¢0.66.

The closing price matched its year high and sustained the company’s remarkable momentum on the GAX.

Ecobank Ghana gained GH¢0.27 to close at GH¢38.32, while ETI added GH¢0.02 to finish at GH¢1.97.

The five leading counters by value, MTNGH, Kasapreko, CAL Bank, Intravenous Infusions and Ecobank Ghana, accounted for 86.09 per cent of total turnover.

TotalEnergies Leads Price Gains

TotalEnergies Marketing Ghana recorded the largest absolute price increase, rising by GH¢1.17 to close at GH¢40.00.

Societe Generale Ghana advanced to GH¢7.00, Republic Bank Ghana gained GH¢0.12 to GH¢4.32, and Clydestone rose to GH¢4.50, matching its annual high.

Cocoa Processing Company, Hords, CAL Bank and IIL also finished stronger.

Several financial stocks remained unchanged. Access Bank Ghana closed at GH¢31.90, GCB Bank at GH¢43.20 and Standard Chartered Bank at GH¢70.00. SIC Insurance also held steady at GH¢6.00 despite recording GH¢171,522 in turnover.

Friday’s session showed a market with positive price momentum but limited breadth in liquidity.

MTN Ghana remains the exchange’s main value anchor, while Kasapreko is supplying much of the trading volume. IIL is also drawing attention to the alternative market through sharp price gains.

The question now is whether investors will spread activity across more listed companies. For the moment, sentiment is strong, but a handful of counters are still doing most of the heavy lifting.
