MTN Ghana Drives GSE Trading, Generating 58.58% of GH¢7.3M Turnover

MTN Ghana trading dominated activity on the Ghana Stock Exchange on Monday, August 10, 2026, as investors exchanged 2.84 million shares valued at GH¢7.31 million across the main market, Ghana Alternative Market and exchange traded funds.

Scancom Plc, trading as MTN Ghana, accounted for GH¢4.28 million of the session’s turnover from 611,499 shares. That represented 58.58% of the entire market by value, despite the telecommunications giant ending the session unchanged at GH¢7.00.

The heavy trading therefore brought liquidity, not a price move.

Kasapreko Plc was the second biggest contributor, recording 500,101 shares worth GH¢999,388.73.

The recently listed brewer closed at GH¢2.00, unchanged on the day, but its 13.68% share of total turnover underlined its growing presence in market activity.

GCB Bank followed with GH¢518,641.80 in turnover from 12,033 shares, accounting for 7.10% of the day’s value traded.

Together, MTN Ghana, Kasapreko and GCB Bank generated close to four fifths of total market turnover, leaving much of the session’s liquidity concentrated in a handful of counters.

Smaller stocks post sharper gains

The strongest price movements came from stocks that attracted far less money.

Dannex Ayrton Starwin Plc, known as DASPHARMA, gained 9.62%, rising from GH¢0.52 to GH¢0.57 after 50,000 shares worth GH¢28,500 changed hands.

Hords Plc followed with a 9.09% increase, moving from GH¢0.55 to GH¢0.60.

SIC Insurance also advanced, gaining 6.26% to close at GH¢5.09. Ecobank Transnational Incorporated rose 3.39% from GH¢1.77 to GH¢1.83 after 65,913 shares valued at GH¢120,839.62 were traded.

Intravenous Infusions Plc suffered the sharpest decline, falling 9.43% from GH¢0.53 to GH¢0.48. Its 299,122 shares generated GH¢143,578.56 in turnover.

Enterprise Group was the other decliner, easing marginally from GH¢10.03 to GH¢10.02.

The Ghana Alternative Market produced one of the day’s most striking figures.

Digicut Production & Advertising Plc recorded 1.07 million shares, making it the most traded security by volume. The company accounted for about 37.66% of all shares traded.

Yet those transactions were worth only GH¢96,320.

That gap between volume and value tells a different story from the headline turnover figures. Digicut moved the most shares, but MTN Ghana generated far more money because its GH¢7.00 share price meant fewer shares were needed to produce substantial turnover.

MTN Ghana itself accounted for 21.52% of total shares traded, while Kasapreko contributed 17.60% and Intravenous Infusions 10.53%.

Financial stocks mostly steady

Trading among financial stocks was largely quiet.

Access Bank Ghana closed unchanged at GH¢31.89, while CAL Bank remained at GH¢0.76. Ecobank Ghana held at GH¢39.00 and GCB Bank stayed at GH¢43.10.

Societe Generale Ghana also stabilised at GH¢6.00 following the sharp decline recorded during the previous session.

SIC Insurance’s recovery to GH¢5.09 stood out in the financial and insurance segment, although the stock remained below its 2026 high of GH¢6.09.

Several major counters recorded no price movement. Standard Chartered Bank Ghana remained at GH¢70.00, TotalEnergies Marketing Ghana at GH¢39.83, Fan Milk at GH¢13.30 and Guinness Ghana Breweries at GH¢11.88.

Atlantic Lithium held at GH¢5.43, while Benso Oil Palm Plantation, AngloGold Ashanti, Asante Gold and First Atlantic Bank recorded no trades.

The NewGold exchange traded fund was barely active, with only two units worth GH¢924.78 changing hands.

Liquidity remains concentrated

Monday’s session offered a familiar picture of the Ghanaian equity market: sharp percentage movements in smaller counters alongside heavy value concentration in a few large stocks.

For investors, the distinction matters. A stock can rise nearly 10% without attracting significant capital, while a heavily traded company such as MTN Ghana can dominate market turnover without its price moving at all.

That was precisely the pattern on Monday.

MTN Ghana generated 58.58% of the GH¢7.31 million traded on the exchange, yet closed at exactly GH¢7.00.

The challenge for the Ghana Stock Exchange remains broader participation. Until liquidity spreads across more listed companies, a relatively small group of counters will continue to determine the character of daily trading.

For Monday, though, there was little doubt about the market’s centre of gravity. It was MTN Ghana.
