NPA Targets 268 Fuel Stations for 24-Hour Economy Pilot Programme

The National Petroleum Authority has announced the inclusion of 268 fuel stations, eight storage depots and two major refineries in the pilot phase of government’s 24-hour economy programme.

The initiative will initially cover facilities across the Greater Accra, Ashanti, Western and Northern regions as part of efforts to transform Ghana’s downstream petroleum sector into a round-the-clock operation.

According to the NPA, the phased rollout is intended to test the resilience of existing infrastructure while refining operational systems to ensure safe and sustainable 24-hour service delivery.

Godwin Edudzi Tameklo said the selected regions were chosen because they represent some of Ghana’s most active commercial and industrial zones where demand for petroleum products remains consistently high.

“This programme will be rolled out in phases beginning with selected facilities across four regions of Ghana namely; Greater Accra, Ashanti, Western and Northern regions.” - NPA CEO

Boosting Productivity and Fuel Distribution

Officials believe the move could help reduce congestion and logistical delays often associated with daytime fuel distribution and commercial activity.

Goosie Tanoh described the programme as a strategic effort to “unlock productivity” and strengthen overall economic output.

The expansion of the petroleum sector into a multi-shift operational system is also expected to improve efficiency across fuel supply chains while supporting the government’s broader economic transformation agenda.
