Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu Serving Sentence in State Custody, Not Private Facility – Muntaka

Interior Minister Muntaka Mubarak has firmly rejected allegations that former MASLOC Chief Executive Officer Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu is being housed in a private facility or receiving preferential treatment while serving her prison sentence.

Speaking in an interview on Joy News on Wednesday, June 24, the minister stressed that the convicted former MASLOC boss remains in the custody of the state and is serving her sentence under the supervision of the Ghana Prisons Service.

“From the day she came, she has been with us, and she’s with us, and she’s serving her term,” Mr Muntaka stated.

The clarification comes amid growing demands from some opposition lawmakers seeking greater transparency over the exact location where Sedina Tamakloe-Attionu is being held following her conviction in the MASLOC-related fraud case.

However, the Interior Minister maintained that the government is under no obligation to publicly disclose the detention location of high-profile inmates, arguing that doing so could create security risks.

“Maybe in Ghana, we take telling people where somebody is serving lightly, because in America and other countries, telling people that this kind of high-profile person is here can even lead to the death of that person. So it’s for safety.” - Interior Minister

Government Urges Public Trust

Mr Muntaka assured the public that the former MASLOC CEO is not being sheltered outside the prison system and remains subject to the same custodial arrangements as other convicted persons.

“Trust us, she’s serving her term. She’s not in any private residence. She is with us,” he said.

The minister further questioned the basis of the allegations, noting that a custodial sentence naturally places an individual under prison supervision.

“Was she not sentenced? She was. If she were sentenced, where would she be? You must be in prison custody,” he added.

He also indicated that relatives, legal representatives and other authorised persons seeking to verify her whereabouts or arrange visits can do so through the established procedures of the Ghana Prisons Service.
