The US Embassy in Accra has completed same-day processing of a Javits Frimpong mother visa, clearing the way for the slain Ghanaian teenager’s mother to travel to New York for his funeral.
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa said Madam Doris Adu Gyamfi and her niece are expected to leave Ghana for the United States within hours.
“I wish to commend the US Embassy in Accra for the super expedited same-day processing of the visa of the mother and cousin of Javits Frimpong,” he said.
The development follows an intervention by New York City Mayor Zohran Kwame Mamdani, who said President Donald Trump had agreed to grant an immediate visa to Javits’ mother.
Ghana Pushes for Justice
Mr Ablakwa said Ghana remained in contact with US authorities over investigations into the 15-year-old’s killing.
“We shall have no rest until justice is manifestly done,” he said.
Javits was shot while walking to school in the Bronx on October 29. No arrests had been announced in the initial investigation.
Mr Ablakwa said Ghana’s diplomatic missions would continue pursuing justice for citizens abroad. “No parent deserves to lose their 15-year old in these heart wrenching circumstances,” he added.
