ADB profit before tax rose to GH¢478.5 million for the nine months ended September 30, 2026, from GH¢447.5 million in the same period last year, according to the bank’s unaudited financial statements.
Profit after tax also increased by 6.9% to GH¢301.7 million, compared with GH¢282.3 million in September 2025.
The results came alongside a marked improvement in some of the bank’s prudential indicators. ADB’s capital adequacy ratio climbed to 27.41% from 0.49% a year earlier, while its liquidity ratio increased to 145.83% from 130%.
Managing Director Edward Ato Sarpong said the performance reflected efforts to rebuild the bank’s financial position and improve resilience.
“Our financial performance reflects the steady progress we are making in building a stronger, more resilient, and competitive bank,” he said.
Balance Sheet Expands
ADB’s total assets increased by about 25% to GH¢20.28 billion from GH¢16.22 billion during the period.
Shareholders’ funds rose more sharply, reaching GH¢2.76 billion from GH¢1.56 billion, representing growth of about 77%.
Accumulated losses also reduced to GH¢1.52 billion from GH¢1.70 billion, while statutory reserves increased from GH¢340.7 million to GH¢534 million.
Mr Sarpong said the stronger capital position gives the bank more room to pursue its strategic plans while maintaining prudent risk management.
“Our goal is to build an institution that is not only profitable, but financially sound, customer-focused and capable of delivering long-term value,” he said.
NPL Ratio Improves but Remains High
ADB also recorded a reduction in its non-performing loan ratio, which fell to 66.32% from 70.13% in September 2025.
The decline marks an improvement, although the ratio remains high and continues to point to significant credit risk on the bank’s loan book.
Management said continued loan recoveries, financial discipline and tighter risk controls would remain important to strengthening the balance sheet.
The bank’s transformation programme is focused on profitability, stronger customer relationships, operational efficiency and support for agriculture, agribusiness and other productive sectors.
Mr Sarpong said management intends to consolidate the gains while positioning ADB as a stronger financial partner for businesses and individuals.
