Afenyo-Markin Accuses Chief Justice Baffoe-Bonnie of a Grand Conspiracy in Torkornoo Removal

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has dropped a bombshell allegation against the head of the Judiciary by accusing Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie of orchestrating a grand conspiracy to oust his predecessor.

The Effutu lawmaker did not hold back. He pointed fingers directly at the current Chief Justice and a faction of Supreme Court judges, claiming they actively sabotaged Justice Gertrude Torkornoo to seize control of the bench.

According to the Minority Leader, the petition that ultimately forced her out was nothing more than a calculated political scheme to prematurely end her tenure.

“It was a grand conspiracy. I have said so, and I have not minced words on that,” Afenyo-Markin declared during the broadcast.

He insisted that Justice Baffoe-Bonnie was intimately involved in the plot against the former Chief Justice, driven by internal judicial ambitions rather than constitutional principles.

A Promise of Reinstatement

Justice Torkornoo made history for the wrong reasons when she became the first Chief Justice of the Fourth Republic to be sacked.

President John Dramani Mahama initiated the Article 146 removal process following a controversial petition. The move immediately sparked fierce debates within civil society and the legal fraternity about the fairness and transparency of the entire ordeal.

“If the NPP comes to power, I don’t know why she won’t be reinstated. Of course, she will be reinstated,” he stated.

For the Minority Leader, the battle is far from over. He is already banking on a political shift to reverse the judicial overhaul. Confident in his party's electoral chances at the next polls, Afenyo-Markin made a blunt promise regarding the future of the ousted Chief Justice.
