Legendary Alex Ferguson has been taken to hospital for precautionary checks after reportedly feeling unwell at Old Trafford ahead of a major Premier League fixture.

The 84-year-old former Manchester United manager had arrived at the stadium to watch the highly anticipated clash against Liverpool FC when the incident occurred. There has been no immediate update on his condition.

Speaking after United’s 3-2 victory, head coach Michael Carrick expressed concern over the development, describing the news as unsettling.

“I did hear about it before the game, so I was aware,” Carrick said. “All I can say is I wish him the best. I’m very affected by the news and just hope he’s alright.”

He added that while details remain limited, his thoughts are with his former mentor. “We don’t know the latest, but we hope he’s in good shape and we wish him all the best,” he said.

‘Win Could Lift His Spirits’

Carrick also suggested that the team’s victory might provide some encouragement to Ferguson during his recovery.

“Hopefully the result, when he hears about it, can give him a boost,” he noted, reflecting the deep respect Ferguson continues to command within the club.

Ferguson is widely regarded as one of football’s greatest managers, having led Manchester United to 13 Premier League titles and two UEFA Champions League trophies during his 26-year tenure.

Beyond England, he also achieved remarkable success in Scotland with Aberdeen FC and managed the national team at the 1986 FIFA World Cup.

His influence at Manchester United extended well beyond his retirement in 2013, with the club icon continuing in an ambassadorial role until 2025.
