Ghana’s fuel supply will remain stable through December, with enough petroleum cargoes secured to prevent shortages and queues at filling stations, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Bulk Oil Distributors, Dr Patrick Kwaku Ofori, has assured.

Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express Business Edition on Thursday, Dr Ofori said arrangements made by bulk distributors would ensure continuous supply to consumers and Oil Marketing Companies during the final months of the year.

“And we can also assure the consuming public and our partners, the oil marketing companies, that supply will never be an issue,” he said.

Cargoes Secured Through December

Dr Ofori said petroleum import arrangements had been made far enough ahead to protect Ghana from supply disruptions being experienced in some markets.

“We can confidently say that by the end, up till now, till December, we're going to have all the cargo locked in,” he stated.

He expressed confidence that the expected deliveries would arrive as planned and keep filling stations adequately supplied.

The assurance comes as petroleum markets continue to face external pressures, making reliable cargo scheduling critical to Ghana’s downstream fuel supply.

Local Market Remains Priority

Dr Ofori said major bulk distributors had continued to prioritise the domestic market before considering petroleum exports to neighbouring countries.

“Almost all the big guys who were leading on the various leagues that were published have consistently served, and competed fairly and served the Ghanaian public before even thinking about exports into our neighbouring countries.” - Dr Ofori

He also pointed to internal industry oversight and transparency with regulators as important to maintaining supply and protecting consumers.

“We even self-regulate ourselves and ensure that nobody takes advantage of the consuming public,” Dr Ofori said.

He explained that distributors must consistently sell imported products to recover funds and meet obligations to trading partners and banks that finance petroleum imports.

Dr Ofori maintained that cooperation among bulk distributors, Oil Marketing Companies and consumers had helped Ghana maintain product availability despite pressures within the petroleum market.
