The Minister for Finance, Cassiel Ato Forson, has held discussions with the World Bank on advancing Ghana’s job creation agenda as part of the country’s next phase of economic transformation.
According to Dr Forson, the engagement with Paschal Donohoe focused on strategies to consolidate Ghana’s economic recovery while addressing unemployment, particularly among young people.

Youth unemployment remains a major challenge
Dr Forson explained that the government spent much of the previous year stabilising the economy and restoring fiscal sustainability in Ghana.
“I noted that last year was focused on resetting the economy and placing it firmly on the path to sustainability,” he said.
However, he acknowledged that unemployment—especially among young people—remains a pressing issue that requires urgent policy attention.
With Africa’s population becoming increasingly youthful, the minister stressed that government jobs alone cannot meet the growing demand for employment opportunities.

World Bank pledges continued support
Dr Forson revealed that the government is introducing policies and programmes aimed at creating sustainable employment opportunities across the economy.
In response, Mr Donohoe congratulated Ghana on the improvement in its national finances and reaffirmed the World Bank’s commitment to supporting the country’s development efforts.
He indicated that the institution is ready to assist through a Jobs and Growth Analysis that will help identify new opportunities for job creation.
