Bank of Ghana Engages X Creators on Service Export Proceeds

The Governor of the Bank of Ghana, Johnson Pandit Asiama, has held a meeting with Ghanaian X content creators to address concerns over access to earnings from digital platforms.

The engagement, which took place at Bank Square, follows a statement issued by the central bank on April 20, 2026, responding to complaints about payout challenges faced by creators.

Dr Asiama emphasised the growing importance of digital content creation as a form of service export, assuring participants of the Bank’s commitment to supporting their work.

“We place a premium on what you do, just like the export of cocoa,” he said, underscoring the economic value of the sector.

He further assured creators that the Bank stands ready to resolve any challenges they encounter.

“If you have any issues with your payouts, we are ready to help. We are making ourselves accessible so that we resolve all the issues that you have.” - Governor of the Bank of Ghana

Call for Organisation and Compliance

The Governor encouraged content creators to form a formal association to streamline engagement with the central bank and ensure quicker resolution of concerns.

“We are interested in what you are doing and will do everything to facilitate your work,” he noted.

Under existing foreign exchange regulations, service export proceeds can be received through foreign exchange accounts or Ghana cedi accounts, provided transactions comply with regulatory requirements.

The meeting signals a growing recognition of Ghana’s digital economy and the need to integrate it more effectively into the country’s formal financial system.
