The Damang Mine has officially been handed over to Engineers and Planners following the company’s successful bid to take over the concession from Gold Fields Ghana Limited.

The ceremony, held on April 18, 2026, was officiated by Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, who performed the symbolic transfer at the mine site.

Chief Executive Officer of Engineers and Planners, Ibrahim Mahama, described the transition as a significant milestone, citing his long-standing relationship with the Damang Mine spanning over three decades.

“I would say that, look, if we all put our minds together, this is a success story,” he said, adding that his plans for the mine are ambitious and aimed at proving the potential of local investment.

He emphasised that the takeover represents an opportunity for Ghanaian firms to demonstrate their capacity to manage large-scale mining operations.

Infrastructure and Development Plans

Mr Mahama outlined major infrastructure projects linked to the mine’s operations, including plans to construct a concrete road connecting Damang to Cape Coast within two years.

He also revealed intentions to develop an airport within six months to improve accessibility and support economic activity in the area.

“The plan I have for Damang Mine is not a joke. I just want to prove that we can invest in ourselves in this country,” he stated.

The transition is expected to drive economic growth in surrounding communities through job creation, infrastructure development, and increased local participation in the mining sector.

The handover marks a new chapter for the Damang Mine, with renewed focus on indigenous ownership and long-term national development.
