105,000 Applicants Qualify for Ghana Security Services Recruitment

Ghana’s security services recruitment process has recorded a significant number of successful applicants, with about 105,000 candidates qualifying for the medical stage, according to the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak.

However, the minister revealed that only 5,000 positions are currently available across the various security agencies, meaning the majority of qualified applicants may not be recruited this year.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday, March 11, after parliamentary proceedings, Mr. Mohammed-Mubarak explained that the high number of successful candidates followed the completion of online aptitude tests conducted as part of the recruitment process.

“We still have 105,000 who have qualified for medicals. In reality, the total number we can take after medicals is 5,000, so we still face a huge challenge.” - Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak

Government to retain data of successful candidates

The Interior Minister noted that even though many applicants may pass the medical examinations, the limited number of vacancies means only a fraction will be selected to join the security services this year.

He urged applicants who may not be selected in the current exercise to remain patient, assuring them that the government intends to consider them in future recruitment phases.

According to him, the government plans to retain the records of candidates who successfully complete the recruitment stages.

“But the President has instructed that those who qualify and pass medicals, let’s keep their data. This is the first phase,” the minister explained.

More opportunities expected after IMF programme

Mr. Mohammed-Mubarak indicated that additional recruitment opportunities are expected in 2026, particularly after Ghana concludes its programme with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

He expressed optimism that improved fiscal conditions would allow the government to expand recruitment into the security services.

“The current recruitment is for 2025. Hopefully, when we are out of the IMF programme, we will conduct the 2026 recruitment and draw from the same pool of applicants.” - Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak

The minister added that the government remains committed to creating more opportunities for the youth and strengthening the country’s security institutions as economic conditions improve.
