The Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) and PETRONAS have commenced a two-week technical and commercial engagement in Accra to explore investment opportunities and potential collaboration in Ghana's upstream petroleum industry.
The discussions, being held at the GNPC Research and Technology Centre, bring together specialists from both institutions to assess petroleum exploration prospects, discovered resources and possible areas of commercial cooperation.
The GNPC PETRONAS partnership discussions form part of the national oil company's efforts to attract investment and technical expertise to support the development of Ghana's petroleum resources.
Experts to Assess Exploration Opportunities
The engagement will cover several technical areas, including geology, geophysics, subsurface studies, petroleum engineering, new ventures and commercial development.
GNPC has assembled a team of geologists, geophysicists, engineers and commercial specialists to work with their PETRONAS counterparts.
The sessions are expected to provide a platform for sharing technical information, reviewing opportunities in Ghana's upstream sector and identifying areas where the institutions could collaborate.
The discussions remain exploratory, with no investment agreement or financial commitment announced.
GNPC Expresses Readiness for Collaboration
Welcoming the PETRONAS delegation on behalf of GNPC's Chief Executive Officer, Deputy Chief Executive for Finance, Commercial and Administration, Hamis Ussif, expressed the Corporation's readiness to facilitate productive discussions throughout the engagement.
GNPC's Director of Projects, Dr Albert Longdon-Nyewan, also highlighted the Corporation's interest in developing relationships that could support investment and petroleum resource development.
The engagement follows GNPC's wider efforts to develop technical partnerships and attract investment into exploration and production.
Earlier in September, the Corporation identified exploration, investment and commercial capability as priorities during the 2026 Africa Oil Week conference in Accra.
The immediate objective of the PETRONAS discussions is to identify opportunities for further assessment and possible future cooperation.
For Ghana, the engagement offers another channel for presenting its upstream petroleum potential to an international energy company while strengthening technical exchanges between industry specialists.
