The National Democratic Congress's 2026 internal elections will move from constituency contests in October to regional polls in November and a National Congress in December under a timetable released by the governing party.
The Functional Executive Committee authorised the calendar at its August 4 meeting. Deputy General Secretary Barbara Serwaa Asamoah issued the statement a day later.
According to the party’s official internal elections roadmap, constituency elections will be held on Saturday, October 24, and Sunday, October 25, 2026.
Regional executive elections are scheduled for Saturday, November 14, and Sunday, November 15. The process will culminate in the National Congress on Saturday, December 19. A youth and women conference also forms part of the national stage.
The broader timetable covers the opening and filing of nominations, vetting, appeals, balloting and voting at all three levels. Those steps matter because disputes in party elections often begin before ballots are printed, not on election day.
Party demands firm compliance
The NDC said the roadmap reflects its commitment to “transparent, credible and well organised internal elections” conducted under its constitution and approved guidelines.
Regional and constituency executives, aspirants and members have been asked to study the schedule and comply with every deadline and procedure. The party believes firm adherence will keep the process orderly and reduce avoidable complaints.
Now every aspirant must comply.
Eyes already turning to 2028
Beyond choosing officers, the exercise will shape the party machinery that carries the NDC into the 2028 general election.
The party appealed for unity and discipline throughout the process, arguing that its reorganisation should strengthen rather than fracture its structures.
Competition is expected across the constituency, regional and national ranks. The NDC’s immediate task is to manage that contest without allowing internal rivalries to weaken the organisation it wants ready for 2028.
