UAE employment visa applicants from Ghana must now obtain a Police Clearance Certificate before their applications can be accepted, following a new requirement announced by the United Arab Emirates.
Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs disclosed the change in a public notice dated August 4 after receiving formal notification from the UAE Embassy in Accra.
The requirement was introduced under UAE Cabinet Decision No. 1/36 of 2026 and a corresponding decision by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship.
The certificate, officially described as a Good Conduct Certificate, applies across all categories of workers rather than selected occupations.
The first phase took effect on March 30, 2026 and covers Ghanaian nationals submitting employment visa applications from Ghana. A second phase began on July 20 and extends the requirement to workers arriving in the UAE.
Authentication required before submission
Applicants cannot simply obtain the certificate and attach it to their documents. The Ministry said it must first be authenticated by Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Ministry and then by the UAE Embassy in Accra.
The document constitutes “an additional requirement” for employment visas. It does not replace other immigration, medical or employment documents demanded under UAE procedures.
Ghanaians currently staying in the UAE on visit visas are also affected if they plan to change their status to employment visas.
The announcement grants that group a 45 day grace period from the decision’s effective date to regularise their immigration status.
Applicants urged to act early
For prospective workers, the practical message is plain: obtain the police clearance early and allow time for authentication before submitting a visa application.
The Ministry said it would work with the UAE Embassy to support implementation and reduce avoidable difficulties.
Applicants who remain uncertain have been advised to seek clarification directly from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ghana Police Service or the UAE Embassy in Accra, where necessary.
