The West African Examinations Council has released the provisional 2026 WASSCE results for school candidates, with the subject results of 7,434 candidates cancelled for bringing foreign materials into examination halls.
The results have been hosted online, while heads of schools are expected to receive login details to access the performance records of their candidates.
Candidates may also check their results through the Council’s official website, www.waecgh.org.
A total of 512,862 candidates from 1,022 schools entered the examination. The figure comprised 225,270 males and 287,592 females, representing an 11.07 percent increase over the 461,736 candidates recorded in 2025.
WAEC said 5,049 candidates, representing 0.98 percent of the total entry, were absent.
English performance continues to fall
The performance statistics show mixed results across the four core subjects between 2023 and 2026.
Social Studies recorded the strongest performance in 2026, with 78.04 percent of candidates obtaining grades A1 to C6. Mathematics followed with 60.75 percent, while Integrated Science recorded 62.08 percent.
English Language, however, continued its downward trend. The proportion of candidates obtaining grades A1 to C6 fell from 73.11 percent in 2023 to 69.52 percent in 2024, 69 percent in 2025 and 62.40 percent in 2026.
WAEC noted that performance in Mathematics, Integrated Science and Social Studies varied over the four year period, while English Language recorded “a progressive decline in performance within the same period.”
Mobile phones and foreign materials
The Ghana Examinations Committee, at its 42nd meeting held on Friday, August 7, 2026, approved sanctions against candidates involved in examination irregularities.
The subject results of 7,434 candidates were cancelled after they were found to have brought prepared notes, textbooks and other printed materials into examination halls.
The entire results of 861 candidates were also cancelled for possessing mobile phones in the examination halls.
In addition, subject results of 957 candidates and the entire results of 270 candidates have been withheld over various suspected offences.
WAEC said some subject results involving candidates from 169 schools remained withheld over alleged collusion. Investigations are expected to determine whether those results will be released or cancelled by October 30, 2026.

The Council also cautioned candidates against fraudsters who promise to upgrade results for money, stressing that results can be authenticated through its verification system and QR code.
