World LPG Day 2026: NPA Reaffirms Commitment to Expanding LPG Access and Safety

The National Petroleum Authority (NPA) has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding access to Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) and strengthening safety standards across Ghana as part of efforts to accelerate the country’s transition to cleaner energy sources.

The pledge was made during the commemoration of World LPG Day 2026, which brought together key stakeholders from government and the energy sector to discuss strategies for increasing LPG adoption, improving public awareness, and enhancing safety compliance nationwide.

Speaking at the event, NPA Chief Executive Officer, Godwin Kudzo Tameklo, stressed the importance of collaboration in driving LPG penetration across the country.

According to him, achieving widespread adoption of LPG requires a coordinated approach involving effective regulation, sustained public education, and shared responsibility among participants throughout the value chain.

He noted that cleaner cooking solutions such as LPG remain critical to improving public health outcomes and reducing dependence on traditional fuels.

Government Commits to Clean Energy Expansion

Delivering the keynote address, John Abdulai Jinapor reaffirmed the government’s commitment to increasing local LPG production and expanding clean cooking initiatives.

The minister highlighted plans to support the use of LPG in secondary schools through the Renewable Energy Fund, describing the initiative as part of broader efforts to promote sustainable energy consumption and improve energy access.

Industry players at the event identified affordability, investment, public awareness, and regulatory support as some of the major challenges limiting LPG penetration in Ghana.

They called for stronger collaboration between government agencies, private sector operators, and consumers to address these barriers and accelerate growth within the sector.

Meanwhile, the Director of Gas at the NPA, Ntiwaa Kwakye, reaffirmed the Authority’s role in coordinating stakeholders and advancing safety advocacy.

She said the NPA remains focused on implementing a unified national LPG agenda aimed at improving accessibility, strengthening safety standards, and supporting Ghana’s clean energy transition goals.
