The Founder and Chief Executive Officer of ZEN Petroleum Limited, William Tewiah, has outlined the company’s rapid growth and expanding influence within Ghana’s petroleum industry, highlighting its strong position in the mining sector.

Speaking on The Point of View on Channel One TV with Bernard Avle, Mr Tewiah revealed that ZEN has become a major supplier of lubricants to mining companies across the country.

“We blend our own lubricants. We’re pretty much along the value-chain sector, and we own a terminal in Takoradi. We’re a major supplier to the mines in Ghana,” he said, noting that the company’s market share has adjusted from about 80 percent to around 50 percent.

Mr Tewiah traced the company’s journey back to 2010, when it secured its first contract supplying diesel to Gold Fields Ghana Limited in Tarkwa.

“It started… with a single contract. It was a journey of curiosity. It led to our second mine and third mine,” he recounted, describing how the business evolved steadily into a diversified energy operation.

Expansion Across the Value Chain

Over the years, ZEN has expanded beyond fuel supply into broader petroleum activities, including imports, logistics, and retail operations.

“We started with ZEN Petroleum Limited, which is the OMC… We acquired a BDC licence to take care of imports. We now have over 100 trucks handling our own transport, and we also do a bit of bunkering.” - Chief Executive Officer of ZEN Petroleum Limited

The company’s entry into the retail segment about five years ago has further strengthened its presence in the downstream market.

Mr Tewiah emphasised that ZEN remains a fully Ghanaian-owned enterprise, underscoring its commitment to local participation in the energy sector.

“ZEN is a proudly 100% Ghanaian company… We want to enhance the reputation of Ghanaian-owned companies,” he stated.

He added that the company remains focused on consolidating its market position while contributing to Ghana’s economic development through job creation and investment in the petroleum industry.
