The Accra Kumasi Expressway corridor clearing exercise has reached its final stage, with Ghana Armed Forces engineers clearing 170 of the 176 kilometres earmarked for the project.
Only six kilometres remain, as the military engineering team advances towards Sawua.
In a post on X on Thursday, September 3, the Ghana Armed Forces commended its engineers for their work on the difficult terrain.
“The finish line is in sight. Out of 176 kilometres of challenging terrain, just 6 KM REMAIN!” the statement said.
Major Progress Recorded
The latest update represents a sharp improvement over the position announced earlier this year.
As of June 25, 2026, engineers had cleared 89.5 kilometres, representing 50.9 percent of the corridor. The exercise was initially expected to be completed within 20 weeks.
The clearing work is intended to establish the required right of way before major construction begins.
The proposed Accra Kumasi Expressway is expected to strengthen the connection between Ghana’s two major cities, cut travel time and ease pressure on existing roads.
It is also projected to improve the movement of people and goods along the corridor.
With six kilometres outstanding, attention is now on the military team’s progress towards completing the remaining stretch and preparing the corridor for the next phase of the road project.
