ChatGPT has suffered a major international outage, leaving thousands of users in the United States and hundreds in India unable to access the platform normally.
The disruption began at about 7:56 pm IST and affected several core services, including the main chatbot interface and the platform’s Work mode.
Users reported frozen prompts, delayed responses and websites or applications failing to load results. Paying ChatGPT Plus subscribers were among those affected.
OpenAI acknowledged the problem on its status page, stating: “ChatGPT Work Mode is experiencing high error rates. We are investigating the issue.”
Downdetector Records Thousands of Reports
Outage tracker Downdetector recorded nearly 13,000 reports from users in the United States.
About 77 percent of the complaints were linked to the ChatGPT platform, while Codex accounted for 10 percent and the application recorded seven percent.
In India, more than 400 users reported difficulties accessing ChatGPT through the website, browser and app.
The latest disruption marks the second major service failure reported within three days, raising fresh concerns about the reliability of the platform for individuals and businesses that depend on it for daily work.
OpenAI had not immediately provided a detailed explanation for the cause of the outage or indicated when all services would be fully restored.
