A new tracking poll by Global InfoAnalytics has placed Cassiel Ato Forson in a commanding position in the National Democratic Congress internal race across eight Akan-dominated regions.
The survey, conducted in March 2026 and presented by Executive Director Mussa Dankwah, shows Ato Forson leading with nearly 33 percent support among four leading contenders.
He is followed by Johnson Asiedu Nketia with 21 percent, while Haruna Iddrisu records 11 percent and Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang polls 8 percent. A notable 23 percent of respondents remain undecided, highlighting the fluid nature of the race.
Broad Support Across Voter Groups
The poll points to Ato Forson’s growing appeal beyond the NDC’s traditional base. Among supporters of the New Patriotic Party, he leads with 29 percent, significantly ahead of Asiedu Nketia’s 14 percent.
Within the NDC itself, Ato Forson maintains a strong lead with 38 percent support, compared to 29 percent for Asiedu Nketia. Haruna Iddrisu and Naana Opoku-Agyemang trail behind with 13 percent and 10 percent respectively.
Among floating voters, often considered decisive in national elections, Ato Forson again leads with 38 percent, reinforcing his cross-party appeal.
The data also highlights Ato Forson’s advantage among unaffiliated voters. Among respondents who did not disclose their political allegiance, he leads with 24 percent, nearly doubling Asiedu Nketia’s 13 percent.
According to Mussa Dankwah, the findings reflect “early but important trends” in the NDC’s internal contest, particularly in regions that play a critical role in shaping national electoral outcomes.
Head-to-Head Advantage Widens
In a direct contest scenario between Ato Forson and Asiedu Nketia, the gap widens significantly. Ato Forson commands 47 percent support, compared to 25 percent for his rival, with 28 percent still undecided.
The poll suggests that Ato Forson’s lead extends across all voter categories, including core party supporters, opposition voters, and floating voters. Among swing voters, his margin is particularly strong, underlining his potential electability in a broader national contest.
While the race remains in its early stages, the poll indicates a clear front-runner emerging within the NDC.
Analysts say the combination of strong internal backing and cross-party appeal could position Ato Forson as a formidable contender as the party begins to shape its strategy toward the 2028 general elections.
