Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, says the party’s extensive internal restructuring is geared toward one uncompromising objective: mobilising grassroots structures to win the 2028 election from the governing National Democratic Congress.
Speaking on Sunday, August 16, to the newly elected Greater Accra Regional executives in Accra, the former Vice President underscored that the internal contests should be treated as heavy operational responsibility rather than mere ceremonial milestones.
Stepping Stone to State Power
Dr Bawumia explained that the regional elections held on August 15 represent a vital phase in a much wider revival campaign designed to turn the party into a battle-ready electoral force.
"The goal for all of us is to win the 2028 election. This is just a stepping stone towards winning 2028," Dr Bawumia told the gathering.
"As a party, we have been engaged in an exercise of reorganisation.
"We have had our polling station elections, our electoral area elections, we have had our constituency elections, and we have now had our regional elections." - Dr Bawumia
Eyes on October 10 National Elections
The former Vice President made it clear that victory in the next general election depends entirely on the energy and discipline the newly installed regional leadership injects into constituency and branch networks across the capital.
"We will culminate that process on October 10 with the national elections and therefore, at the end of that, the party will be in a good position to have that vehicle that drives us to victory in 2028. So there is a lot of work ahead of us." - Dr Bawumia
Dr Bawumia charged the executives to step into their roles immediately, bridge lingering post-contest divisions, and direct every resource toward rebuilding the party from the ground up.
