Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has signed off from Ghana's 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign with a heartfelt message that looks beyond results, calling for lasting reforms to secure the future of Ghanaian football.
Following the Black Stars' elimination from the tournament, the Portuguese coach reflected on the team's journey, insisting that setbacks should become opportunities for growth.
"Football, like life, teaches us one timeless lesson: you either win or you learn," Queiroz said, adding that he leaves "with pride in what we achieved" despite believing the team was capable of even more.
Call for Long Term Change
Rather than focusing solely on performances on the field, Queiroz argued that Ghana's football success depends on building stronger systems behind the scenes.
"The future of the Black Stars will not be built only on the pitch," he wrote. "Black Stars success must start off the field, by creating the best possible environment to prepare, protect and develop Ghana's extraordinary football talent."
The coach also thanked the Ghana Football Association leadership, his players, technical staff and supporters for their trust and commitment throughout the campaign.
Although he admitted the team had fallen short of complete success, Queiroz maintained that the Black Stars had "honoured the colours of Ghana and restored respect and credibility" on football's biggest stage.
His message ended with optimism rather than regret: "Thank you, Ghana. The journey starts now."
