Dodowa-Afienya-Dawhenya Road Project hits 35% completion Ahead of Schedule

The Dodowa-Afienya-Dawhenya Road Project has reached 35 per cent completion, placing the major infrastructure upgrade ahead of schedule as work continues across key sections of the corridor.

According to an update under the government’s Big Push initiative, the reconstruction project officially commenced on December 5, 2025, and is expected to be completed by December 4, 2027.

The project is designed to improve road connectivity between Dodowa, Afienya and Dawhenya, while also enhancing transport links for surrounding towns and nearby districts.

Once completed, the route is expected to support smoother movement of commuters, businesses and goods, especially along the Accra growth corridor.

Key infrastructure works underway

The reconstruction includes a 24.8-kilometre single carriageway asphalt road with shoulders and walkways, as well as a four-kilometre dual carriageway at the Dodowa, Afienya and Dawhenya junctions.

Other major components include a 40-metre, four-lane concrete bridge over the River Detsedor at Afienya, another bridge structure along the route, eight major box culverts, 28 pipe culverts and nearly 29 kilometres of concrete U-drains.

Additional drainage works are also being undertaken, including a 550-metre storm drain and a 40-metre outfall concrete-lined channel to improve flood resilience and road durability.

Roads Minister commends progress

Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Agbodza, visited the project site as part of an inspection tour of road works in the Greater Accra Region and expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of execution.

According to the project update, the minister was pleased with “the delivery of quality work and adherence to timelines,” noting that some sections have already recorded significant progress.

He also commended the contractor, Oswal Investment Group, for its commitment to the project and urged the firm to maintain momentum to ensure timely delivery.

When completed, the road is expected to significantly improve accessibility for residents and businesses in the affected communities, while reducing travel challenges along one of Greater Accra’s expanding peri-urban corridors.

The project is also expected to support local economic activity by strengthening transport infrastructure linking communities to Accra and nearby commercial centres.
