DVLA Extended Service Hours: 15 Offices to Operate Until 10pm from May 2026

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has announced the introduction of extended service hours across selected offices nationwide, a move aimed at improving service delivery and expanding public access to its services.

The new operational schedule will take effect from Monday, May 4, 2026, and is part of broader reforms to modernise the Authority’s operations while responding to growing public demand for more flexible service hours.

According to the DVLA, the initiative also aligns with the government’s 24-hour economy agenda, which seeks to enhance productivity, accessibility, and convenience for citizens.

Under the new arrangement, 15 DVLA offices across the country will operate extended hours, running daily services until 10:00 pm through a structured two-shift system.

The selected locations include offices in Accra, Tema, Kumasi, Takoradi, Tamale, Cape Coast, and other key regional centres such as Koforidua, Sunyani, Ho, and Bolgatanga.

Officials say the choice of these locations reflects their strategic importance as major urban and regional hubs, ensuring broader geographical coverage and improved access to DVLA services.

Reducing Congestion and Improving Access

The Authority indicated that the extended hours are expected to ease congestion at its offices, significantly reduce waiting times, and provide more flexibility for working individuals who may struggle to access services during regular business hours.

By extending operations into the evening, the DVLA also aims to discourage the use of intermediaries, commonly referred to as “middlemen,” by making it easier for citizens to access services directly. This, officials believe, will enhance transparency and improve overall efficiency in service delivery.

As part of the new system, the DVLA has introduced a key payment policy for after-hours services. All payments made after 5:00 pm will be restricted to electronic payment methods.

The Authority explained that this measure is intended to ensure secure transactions, improve accountability, and streamline operations during extended working hours.

Call for Public Cooperation

The DVLA has urged the public to take advantage of the extended service hours while complying with the updated procedures, particularly the shift toward electronic payments.

“DVLA appeals to the public for cooperation as it works diligently to fully operationalize a 24-hour service framework across these offices,” the Authority stated.

The rollout marks a significant step toward building a more responsive and accessible public service system, as Ghana continues efforts to modernise key institutions and improve service delivery nationwide.
