Tension erupted at the Accra High Court on Wednesday, September 23, after a reported confrontation between lawyer and Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah and security personnel following proceedings in the Ghana Jollof case.
The incident occurred after the court considered a bail application filed on behalf of detained Techiman-based nurse Salomey Baffoe Awiti, who is accused of involvement in the publication of allegedly false information linked to the Ghana Jollof TikTok account.
Confrontation Captured in Viral Video
A video circulating online appears to show a woman believed to be a security officer standing beside a vehicle as Mr Baffour Awuah attempts to enter it.
Words are exchanged before a scuffle develops. A man believed to be accompanying the lawyer then opens the vehicle door and pushes the woman aside, allowing the MP to drive away.
The woman appears to make another attempt to stop the vehicle as it moves off. Another car subsequently follows the MP’s vehicle.
Reports suggest Mr Baffour Awuah had asked the woman to identify herself and explain the reason for the attempted intervention.
It remains unclear whether those involved were officers of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) or whether an arrest was being attempted.
Bail Hearing Adjourned to September 24
The confrontation followed the High Court’s decision to adjourn Ms Baffoe’s bail application to Thursday, September 24.
The prosecution requested additional time to respond to the application, but the defence opposed the delay, arguing that its client’s liberty was at stake.
Ms Baffoe, who has pleaded not guilty to a charge of abetment of crime involving the publication of false news, remains in custody pending determination of her bail request.
