GSE Composite Index Gains as Turnover Reaches GH¢18.75m

The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) opened the trading week on a positive note as eight equities advanced, pushing total market turnover to GH¢18.75 million behind heavy trading in GCB Bank PLC and MTN Ghana.

The benchmark GSE Composite Index added 10.25 points, or 0.07%, to close at 14,621.40. The Financial Stocks Index performed better, rising 44.06 points, or 0.58%, to 7,651.52.

Official GSE index data put the Composite Index’s year-to-date return at 66.72%, while the financial index had gained 64.65% since the beginning of 2026.

Eight equities advanced during the session, compared with five decliners. That gave the market positive breadth, even though trading remained concentrated in a handful of counters.

ACCESS Bank leads gainers

ACCESS Bank Ghana recorded the strongest price increase, jumping 10% from GH¢22.21 to GH¢24.43. A total of 2,071 shares changed hands for GH¢50,594.53.

Cocoa Processing Company and Republic Bank Ghana each gained 9.09%, closing at GH¢0.24 and GH¢4.20, respectively.

Dannex Ayrton Starwin Pharmaceuticals rose 8% to GH¢1.08, while Digicut Production and Advertising gained 6.25% to close at GH¢0.34 on the Ghana Alternative Market.

Ecobank Transnational Incorporated finished 1.76% higher at GH¢1.73. CAL Bank added 1.41% to GH¢0.72, while Societe Generale Ghana edged up by one pesewa to GH¢5.60.

The spread of gainers helped both headline indices finish higher. It was not a dramatic rally. Still, more stocks rose than fell, which gave Monday’s close a firmer base than the small index movement suggested.

GCB falls but dominates turnover

GCB Bank was the most prominent decliner, dropping 4.76% from GH¢42 to GH¢40.

The fall came during heavy trading. Investors exchanged 250,324 GCB shares valued at about GH¢10.02 million, accounting for roughly 53.41% of the day’s total market turnover.

Kasapreko declined 2.69% to GH¢1.81 after 314,552 shares were traded. Intravenous Infusions fell 1.75% to GH¢0.56, Atlantic Lithium slipped 0.93% to GH¢5.35 and MTN Ghana eased 0.15% to GH¢6.84.

MTN Ghana led the market by volume, recording 916,562 shares worth approximately GH¢6.26 million.

Together, GCB Bank and MTN Ghana generated about GH¢16.28 million, close to 87% of the entire session’s traded value. The market moved higher, but most of its liquidity still passed through two stocks, one of which finished lower.

Turnover reaches GH¢18.75 million

The Exchange recorded 2.14 million securities valued at GH¢18.75 million. Ordinary shares accounted for GH¢18.61 million and about 1.90 million shares.

Fan Milk, TotalEnergies Marketing Ghana, Ecobank Ghana, Enterprise Group, Guinness Ghana Breweries and GOIL closed unchanged.

Monday’s session was positive, just not broadly liquid. Advancing stocks carried the indices upward, financial equities provided the strongest support and a few large transactions dominated turnover.

For investors, that leaves two different signals. Market breadth improved, but liquidity remained narrow enough for GCB and MTN Ghana to shape almost the entire trading day.
