Ghana Stock Exchange turnover closed August at GH¢5.14 million on Monday, with trading heavily concentrated in MTN Ghana, Kasapreko PLC and CAL Bank as investors exchanged nearly 1.85 million shares.
The Official List for Trading Session 7286 showed total volume of 1,848,208 shares valued at GH¢5,136,436.65 on August 31, 2026.
Ordinary equities accounted for most of the activity, generating 1,749,578 shares worth GH¢5.04 million.
The session offered a mixed finish to the month. MTN Ghana strengthened, selected banking and insurance stocks advanced, while CAL Bank, Kasapreko and Dannex Ayrton Starwin came under selling pressure.
MTN Ghana remained the dominant source of liquidity, with 252,914 shares changing hands for GH¢1.76 million. That represented roughly 34.32% of the entire market’s traded value.
The telecommunications stock gained GH¢0.06 to close at GH¢6.97 from GH¢6.91, an increase of about 0.87%. It ended the session with a closing bid of GH¢6.99 and an offer of GH¢7.00.
Kasapreko generated the second highest turnover at GH¢810,605.80 after investors traded 424,149 shares.
Its price moved the other way, falling 2.02% from GH¢1.98 to GH¢1.94.
The contrast again showed how market liquidity can remain high in an individual counter even when selling pressure pushes the share price lower.
CAL Bank Leads Volume but Drops 6.67%
CAL Bank dominated ordinary share volume. A total of 826,527 shares were traded for GH¢587,833.82, meaning CAL alone accounted for close to half of the ordinary equity volume recorded during the session.
The stock, however, fell sharply from GH¢0.75 to GH¢0.70, a decline of 6.67%. Other banking stocks produced a less uniform picture.
GCB Bank rose about 1% to GH¢39.55 after 7,168 shares worth GH¢283,709.80 changed hands.
Ecobank Ghana remained unchanged at GH¢39.02 but still generated turnover of GH¢547,333.54 from just 14,027 shares, reflecting the impact of its higher unit price.
Ecobank Transnational Incorporated gained 1.64% to GH¢1.86, while Republic Bank Ghana closed unchanged at GH¢4.20.
SIC Rises as DASPHARMA Falls Sharply
SIC Insurance was among the stronger gainers, climbing 3.01% from GH¢5.31 to GH¢5.47. The insurer traded 33,898 shares valued at approximately GH¢185,582.
Enterprise Group edged higher to GH¢6.72, while Societe Generale Ghana slipped to GH¢5.98. The pharmaceutical segment recorded one of the steepest losses of the day.
Dannex Ayrton Starwin fell 8.08% to GH¢1.82 from GH¢1.98 on 42,216 shares worth GH¢76,790.70.
Several established stocks remained unchanged, including Benso Oil Palm Plantation at GH¢76.67, Fan Milk at GH¢13.23, Guinness Ghana Breweries at GH¢10.70 and GOIL at GH¢7.45.
TotalEnergies Marketing Ghana held at GH¢41.50, while Unilever Ghana finished at GH¢40.00.
Activity on the Ghana Alternative Market remained modest in value but produced some of Monday’s bigger percentage gains. Digicut Production and Advertising climbed 7.69% from GH¢0.26 to GH¢0.28 on 21,801 shares.
Intravenous Infusions advanced 1.33% to GH¢0.76 after 53,219 shares changed hands, while Hords remained unchanged at GH¢0.88.
NewGold exchange traded fund activity was thin, with only 61 units traded for GH¢28,205.79 at an unchanged price of GH¢462.39.
Liquidity Still Concentrated in Few Stocks
The final trading session of August reinforced a familiar feature of the Ghanaian equities market.
A handful of stocks continue to determine headline turnover.
MTN Ghana, Kasapreko, CAL Bank and Ecobank Ghana accounted for a substantial share of total market value, while CAL alone dominated volume.
That concentration provides liquidity in the most active counters but also highlights the challenge of building deeper trading across the wider exchange.
August therefore ended with a selective market rather than a broad rally. MTN and some financial stocks attracted buying interest, but significant selling remained visible elsewhere.
As September begins, the bigger test will be whether trading activity spreads beyond the market’s most liquid names or remains dependent on a small group of companies capable of moving daily turnover.
