The Ghana Gold Board has presented GH¢12.65 million to the Narcotics Control Commission following the sale of 17 gold bars confiscated from illegal gold traders earlier this year.
The amount represents half of the proceeds realised from the sale of the seized gold and forms part of GoldBod's reward policy aimed at encouraging intelligence-led enforcement against illicit gold trading.
Reward policy explained
GoldBod Chief Executive Officer Sammy Gyamfi said the reward package was carefully distributed to recognise everyone who contributed to the successful operation.
According to him, 10 per cent of the proceeds goes to the informant whose intelligence triggered the operation, while the Board approved an additional 20 per cent for the NACOC officers who participated in the mission.
"The remaining 20 per cent was awarded to NACOC as an institution for deploying its personnel and resources," he explained.
Commitment to enforcement
Receiving the cheque, NACOC Director General Major General Maxwell Obuba Mantey praised GoldBod for honouring its commitment and pledged stronger collaboration in the fight against illegal gold trading.
The presentation, GoldBod said, reflects its commitment to rewarding credible intelligence, strengthening partnerships with security agencies and protecting Ghana's mineral resources through sustained enforcement.
