King Charles III of the United Kingdom has extended warm Independence Day greetings to President John Dramani Mahama and the people of Ghana, commending the enduring partnership between the two countries and their shared commitment to the values of the Commonwealth.

In a message marking Ghana’s 69th Independence Day on Friday, March 6, 2026, the British monarch conveyed his congratulations while reflecting on the longstanding historical and diplomatic relationship between Ghana and the United Kingdom.

“On the occasion of your Independence Day, my wife and I send our warmest congratulations to you and to the people of the Republic of Ghana” - King Charles III of the United Kingdom

The monarch noted that the relationship between the two nations continues to thrive on the foundation of mutual respect and shared principles within the Commonwealth of Nations. According to him, the cooperation between Ghana and the United Kingdom remains a significant example of how Commonwealth members can strengthen partnerships based on common ideals.

“It is with sincere appreciation that I reflect upon the enduring partnership between our nations, rooted in the shared values and mutual respect that define our Commonwealth.” - King Charles III of the United Kingdom

King Charles also acknowledged the deep historical and cultural connections linking both countries. He referenced the visit of his brother, Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, to Accra in November last year as a symbol of the continuing engagement between the two nations.

“As my brother, H.R.H. The Duke of Edinburgh said on his visit to Accra in November, we share an extraordinary history and heritage,” the King said, expressing gratitude to the people of Ghana for the warm hospitality extended during the visit.

The monarch further highlighted the important role played by the Ghanaian diaspora in the United Kingdom, describing the community as a vital bridge that continues to strengthen social, cultural and economic ties between the two countries.

“The Ghanaian diaspora in the UK is a vital link in our shared story, contributing to every sphere of life from business and education to arts and culture.” - King Charles III of the United Kingdom

King Charles also underscored the importance of unity within the Commonwealth, particularly at a time when the global community faces multiple uncertainties. He expressed optimism that cooperation among member states will continue to promote progress and development.

He concluded his message by wishing Ghana peace and prosperity in the year ahead and expressing hope for further collaboration between both countries, including discussions expected at the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting later this year.
